First, a couple of wardrobe notes. Thanks to everybody at Fulton City and Calloway County who helped out with my attire tonight. I wore the Fulton t-shirt around the office all afternoon and everybody here seemed to get a kick out of it. It was great meeting some of the Fulton boosters yesterday, and hopefully you enjoyed my "believing in the blue."
As for the Laker nation...that coat is magic! And really, really hot. I guess old-school polyester doesn't breathe that well. I hope you guys got as a big a laugh as my co-workers did when they saw me walking the halls in that thing. I'm more than happy to pay off my debt to you guys, and glad to see that Coach McKeel and the rest of the Lakers seem to have that program turned back around after a couple rough years.
Onto the football...
- I don't know what I expected from Lone Oak and Fulton City, but the end result didn't surprise me. I said earlier Fulton City couldn't afford to get behind against that Lone Oak offense. 28 quick points from the Flash and the game was all but over. Lone Oak seemed to take some offense to the mid-week talk coming from the Fulton City camp and seemed to enjoy quieting the Bulldogs. Assuming they can beat Heath next week, I can't wait to listen to a week's worth of trash-talk between Calloway and Lone Oak if they happen to meet in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
- It's a shame Lone Oak couldn't have gotten Massac County on the schedule this year. Those two offenses might have scored 120 points in a game.
- Marshall County is absolutely clicking right now. They're going to be a tough out in the playoffs...at least for the first two weeks.
- Tonight was my first trip to the new stadium at Graves County. It's a really nice complex and everybody who had anything to do with it should be really proud.
- Mayfield could very well lose 4 straight heading into the playoffs. When was the last time that ever happened?!? Has it ever ever happened?!?
- What in the world is going on at Trigg County? After a 6-0 start, the Cats have been run out of the gym the last three weeks. I'm totally perplexed.
- Martin Westview is 9-0 for the first time since 1970...I think that was the last time that red coat was in style. Next week's showdown with 8-1 Milan could very easily be our game of the week.
- Congrats to Marion and DuQuoin for advancing in the Illinois playoffs Friday. Everybody else goes Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised if all of our local teams survive and advance.
That's all for now. We'll see you Sunday night with our AP voting.
