Happy Friday!

All right, now that I've woken up from my turkey stupor, let's dive right into tonight's action.

#7 Mayfield at #3 Frankfort

Mayfield is trying to get back to the semifinals for the 8th straight year.  Frankfort hasn't been to the quarterfinals since 1990.  The Cardinals, obviously, have the edge in playoff experience.  If Mayfield has a healthy Logan Armstrong playing on both sides of the ball, they are an entirely different team.  As of yesterday morning, he was healthy.  If he can stay that way until about 10:30 tonight, take the Cardinals in a defensive slugfest.

Prediction: Mayfield 17, Frankfort 9

#10 Metcalfe County at Trigg County

Once upon a team, this Trigg County team was #1 in the state.  Suddenly the wheels fell off for nearly a month.  They seem to be back on track after winnning three in a row.  Trigg is so happy to be playing anybody but Owensboro Catholic after the Aces bounced them the last four years.  With a rematch with Ft. Campbell looming next week, I'll take the Cats.

Prediction: Trigg County 34, Metcalfe County 21

Henry County at #9 Paducah Tilghman

Tilghman has won 6 in a row and are scoring nearly 48 a night over this stretch.  I think this is one of two blowouts on the night.

Prediction: Paducah Tilghman 51, Henry County 8

North Bullitt at #3 Lone Oak

The road to Louisville will get a whole lot tougher for Lone Oak from here on out...but I don't think it will be THAT tough tonight.  Bullitt brings the best rusher in 4A in Dalton Cissell to Flash Field.  He'll get his yards, but I'm not sure they can do enough to slow down Lone Oak.  Bullitt has to control the clock and keep Corey Robinson and friends on the sideline if they want a chance.  Lone Oak won't get their usual 50...but they'll still coast into the semis.

Prediction:  Lone Oak 44, North Bullitt 21

#1 St. Xavier at Marshall County

First of all, congratulations to the Marshals for getting back to the quarterfinals for the first time since, I believe, 1998.  Unfortunately for the Marshals, the biggest dog on the block is rolling into Draffenville tonight.  Emotion might keep the Marshals in it early, but in the end this will be far too much St. X for Marshall County to handle.

Prediction: St. Xavier 59, Marshall County 14

Everybody have a safe night and we'll see you tonight on Gridiron Glory.

I believe you need to tell the story of the character of Corey Robinson and the other Lone Oak players. They have done something that has never been done because they have unparalleled character and determination. These are characteristics that will benefit any person in any endeavor in life but many in our society have never heard of them. This should be focused on and pointed to and used to challenge all young people to have a great character, set worthwhile goals, and have an unwavering commitment to achieve them. We need to re-establish a broad commitment of young americans in every segment of society to possess these quailities and this could be the very thing that would help many our of youth understand what has made the difference and encourage them to make a difference in their own lives.

Thank you for doing a story related to this aspect of the Lone Oak Teams success.

certainly enjoyed th'g day thank you bid - meals were great including the desserts and 'will' be again today - hope you, gmill & families had a nice one also - but 'today' will be much much better for various reasons...

by the way, what happened to your return & 'homer' predictions yesterday - other than b.f. & the packer's performance, aired nfl games weren't very entertaining - my sun devils then let me down last night - except for the turkey leg on their pitch-fork's mid-field logo, loved it...

thoughts & pred's for today - paducah tilghman advances to the next round and that's 50% of my personal 'lock of the week' - the other 50% a no-brainer says marshall does not...

t'g county puts up a great battle but their '07 war ends - m'field game a really 'tough' read for me so i'm taking a 'bid-fence' on this one - card's pull out a squeaker and i do mean a squeaker, or lose with the very same sound effect...

now lastly, what's the other 'big' match-up for our area this evening - oh yeah the lone oak grave diggers meet the chilling souls from n. b'let - well after several rounds of paper, rock, scissors performed personally by me on behalf of both squads respectively, the results were inconclusive - 50 / 50 @ best your choice so far - due to such, i'm going to return later today with explanation & final decision factors after personally visiting the grave-yard about noon today - have an app't scheduled with several ghostly care-takers currently but formerly players that's said just constantly wander up & down the field prior to a full-moon's glow either celebrating previous wins or moaning loses of years past - all it's costing me is a left-over t'ky leg, neck & gizzard plus one whole p'kin pie - but the 'answer' i'm promised so worth it it will be....

'all' have a great day whether working, shopping, just sitting & watching and of course when-ever eating and enjoying yesterday's left-overs - be safe & luck to all our area teams tonight - kentblue...

Hats off to the Marshals for a great season.  They just ran into giant brick wall against St. Xavier.  It was good to see the Marshals get back into the playoffs and get to play late into November.  Coach Shelton has had a great first year and I hope the fans will tip their hats to him.  He did very well.  Good luck to the other teams in the purchase area.

I watched the north bullitt vs. lone oak game from naples florida and i must say it was one of the most lop sided games i have ever seen in officiating. lone oak must of had there dad's out there on the field. Very disturbing to see the bad calls in a playoff game.
Lone oak played a great game but you should thank the officials for the win! X WILL WIN IT ALL!

you cant blame a 55-33 game on the officials, there were plenty of bad calls for both teams last night. I think toward the end of the game, nb may have shot themselves in the foot with those unsportsman like penalties

while highly beneficial for the team i was cheering for, i'll be the first (rather the second) to post an opinion of the zebra shirted fellows and their calls last night...

please resign guys - terrible, just absolutely terrible - late hits / conduct penalties both flagged & not flagged on several occasions, key ball spot placements wrong even being visible from the distant stands, face mask, pass interference, the back to back 'what-ever' it was resulting in the closest kick-off from the opposition's side of the field 'i've' ever witnessed, on & on & on...

but the 'mother' of them 'all', what in the world was the 'caught' snap by the official which sailed over corey's head about - geeeeeeeez, all this in a 'play-off' game...

oh well, onward 'we' march - quite the impression of the game @ graveyard despite the actual great play of both teams i'm sure the n.b. players, fans, & coaches returned home with & will for-ever remember...

pitiful it was just pitiful the job performance by guys with the whistles...and i want to 'know' what the many of 'you' thought about such regardless of 'whom' you were personally for...

you bidwell & gmiller included also and i certainly realize such comments are with-held generally keeping tongues checked of officiating - but c'mon on, it's plainly viewed on demand for any one to see & re-see guys (@ least partially) and was so lop-sided it's warranted this time around...

blame it on the refs all you want... but pretty sure him "touching" the ball had nothing to do with the win or not. they took the play away compeletly.. and if NB would have got a saftey it still would have been 35-55.. no difference in the game! we are a COMEBACK team! im so sick of people blaming lone oaks wins on everything and everyone.. "well uhh lone oak won because uhh.... because.. the other team had too much to eat last night." WE ARE GOOD..wait..we are A GREAT team.. and so is every other team we have played. so stop with the excuses please.. congrats NB for making it this far.. but as the football players say .."do we loose?" "HE** NAWWW!"

Congrats to  Lone Oak on the great game they played last night! Slow start but an awsome finish! Your fans never had a doubt that you could do it. Can't wait to see what the "doubters" will come up with as a reason for our win! As always, we ,the parents and fans, are so proud of you that the smiles haven't left our faces yet....most likely won't!  Way to go Flash, you're a great bunch of guys, can't wait for the "perm-a- grin" when we go to State!

GREAT JOB LONE OAK PURPLE FLASH FOOTBALL!!!!!  It was such a rush of joyous emotions to watch you advance in your quest for a State 4A Title.

Once again, all of the doubters, jealous fans from other teams, and a former LO player turned sportswriter must find some reason for raining on the parade of the PURPLE FLASH such as poor officiating!!! But if you were really watching the game you would have seen there were just as many bad or missed calls for both teams! The reason for the success of the Lone Oak TEAM is because of the character, drive and determination of all of the Purple Flash players including the offense, defense, and special teams.  If every player on every team played with heart like  Michael "Mickey" Tucker we would have great games to watch on a continuous basis on every level at every school.  But, as we know this does not always happen.  This is the reason this season is even more special.  LOHS Football should be recognized for this and only this, they are a great TEAM!!!

Anyone who predicted the St. X win over Marshall County should realize how unique the LOHS Football team is, they have many of the same players who play offense, defense and punt the football.  They have a 5'3'' player who plays like he is  7'0'' tall.  Not to forget a QB who has set not only STATE and NATIONAL records but also a receiver who is in the STATE record hunt.

Michael "Mickey," we are so proud of you!!!  What a great game Austin Clark!!!  And Travis Hickman what an interception!!!  Way to go Allen "Allen spelled correctly" Haase!!!  C-Rob you are truely amazing!!! And everyone else on the team you have made this  the best football season I have ever had the priviledge to watch.  THANK YOU to all of our OUTSTANDING COACHES because without you this year would not be possible!!!  This is the stuff of which dreams are made.  Let's make this dream of winning the STATE 4A CHAMPIONSHIP come true.  LET'S GET FIRED UP AND BEAT WARREN EAST THIS WEEK!!!

I do not believe that Kent is saying that the call changed the outcome, just that it was bad.  I too have never seen such in a game.  I have seen officials inadvertantly involved in the action but never have I saw one intercept the snap, especially one that was obviously headed for the endzone and a possible TD or safety.  I do not remember the score at the time but if it was when the game was 19-0 then it very well could have affected the outome.  A safety would have made it 21-0 and given them the ball back and could have possibly ended up at 28-0.  That could have changed the game significantly.  All things considered I believe that the do over was the only thing to do given the situation.  Please don't get me wrong, I was wearing purple in the stands freezing my butt off but I have to put myself in NB's position.  If that had happened to LO I would still be griping about it, probably more than their coach did.  I have to give their coach credit, if this had happened to LO Jack would have had to be removed from the game.

the ref catching the ball most deffinatly didnt change the game.. jbrown's 81 run. now that turned the game around for the purple flash.. so what.. if they did get a saftey and a touch down lets see that would be 55-41.. LO still come out on top. people quit griping about the plays and the calls and what not. it happens EVERY game to both sides. but you no NB lost the game because the ref caught the ball. LONE OAK IS GOOD. NO EXCUSES!!!!! NB is a great team. but ppl not even from these schools are fighting and arguing over whos the better team? hello?? i mean dont you have your own team to think of & worry about? these boys deserve the credit.... jealousy is where these downers of loneoak is coming from.. has anyone noticed that ppl who are downing them have more than likely been killed by lone oak? once again as the boys say..... "DO WE LOOSE?" "HE** NAWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

right you are 'oldpirate71' with your understanding of my ref comments - and with your 'jack' scenario also - hey always a few missed here & there in all games, but there were several 'key' flubs in the game - i didn't blame, credit or even hint of the out-come due to such though - how-ever i am not blind either - shoes always fit & feel so better 'if' you aren't the one sporting blisters -

by the way 'op71' 'we' appreciate you coming out and supporting our purple flash team / school in their quest - our shared county still represented well with two squads alive with lone oak & pad tilghman and that's great - united support they both need & deserve...

lone oak mom, loved your commercial take of the intercepted snap - only thing i'd toss in a bottle of vodka along with the v-8 juice and go with a duet product commercial for a stout bloody mary - just a little more fitting for the 'catch'...

If the ball hits the ref then by rule it's a dead ball. The correct call was made in that unique situation.

For everyone blaming this win on the refs, you fail to realize that Lone Oak outscored North Bullitt 55-14 the rest of the game. It's going to be hard to convince me otherwise that the best team did not win this tilt.

I feared Lone Oak would come out flat after their emotional and convincing win over Calloway County and they did. Hopefully the chance to play for the state title with another victory will have the Lone Oak boys fired up from the get go.

Kentblue is right on this one,   LOneOAK.  The official didn't just "touch" the ball--he caught it in midair and sat it on the 1.  The Flash caught a huge break on that one, because they retained possession when the result of the play should've been a safety and NB getting the ball.  At the time, LO's defense was getting worked over by North Bullit's run game.

I'm not sorry the call/play helped LO out, but there's no denying it was a major part of the game--and by the officials, whose job it is the remain as transparent as possible.  Very sad for a playoff game.

Kudos to Lone Oak though for never giving up and making NB pay for every mistake.

lo alum 99, thank you - i'm sure that same group won't whistle our next one but heck 'we' sure could use them - never hurts as you know - really a tough one coming up alum - oh i 'have' faith - ya'll come now, don't miss this one...

there seems to be either reading or comprehension type problems experienced by some fellow bloggers after viewing lone oak purple flash comments / postings - please wait until you see the whites of your enemy's eyes before firing - otherwise you are just wasting ammo - how about saving some of your misconstrued venom for warren east...

though some of you 'might' be interested in friday's game stats - food for thought...

    N. Bullitt Lone Oak
First Downs...20           25
Rushing-Yards...50-301       13-2
Passing Yards...174         350
Passing (C-A-I)...7-17-3 33-51-0
Total Offense ...475          352
Return Yards...3           104
Punts-Avg....3-36.3          6-36.2
Fumbles-Lost...6-1          1-0
Penalties-Yards...12-117        8-51
Possession Time...29:30        18:30

great uphill battle the flash fought that evening - put their flag on top the mountain following their climb they did - not real sure 'all' realize and understand the effort it took by the whole team to over-come n.b. - the win was great - their joint off /def determination was most admirable - often there's more to a game's story than the final score tells...

it WAS NOT a major part of the game. stop making excuses for lone oaks wins, lone oak did not win because of the ref catching the ball. id like to see one of you get out there and have a ball snapped in your face, then see what you'd do:)... once again its something that needs to be dropped.. arguing and whining about it will not change the outcome (niether will a ref catching the ball)
