Here we are about to set our clocks ahead and even seeing a few daffodils in bloom, yet it appears that another winter storm is taking aim on the NewsChannel 6 region. It appears that a developing storm system will take shape along the Gulf Coast and head NE on Friday. With this storm tracking well south of our region, that means we would stay on the cold side of the storm, and with a good bit of moisture primed to be pulled into the system, we could see an accumulating snow across much of the southern half of our region. It's still a little too early to pinpoint exactly when the storm will arrive, who will see snow, and how much, but the latest model data shows some lighter precip arriving by late Thursday evening, with some of that being snow, sleet, and rain, then by Friday morning, snow moving in for most of the day. This data also indicates the potential for a few inches of snow anywhere south of a line from about Cape Girardeau, MO, to around Harrisburg, IL. If the current setup was to play out, the heaviest snow would fall in the Purchase and Pennyrile areas of western KY. This is very preliminary information though, and there is a lot of uncertainty in this forecast. The exact track of this system will be critical in determining the location, amounts, and type of precip that falls. If the models stay in agreement on this through the afternoon, I would anticipate some sort of watch or advisory being posted for parts of the area later this evening. Kyle and Jennifer will be breaking down the latest tonight, and John will update you tomorrow morning. More to come....
