This Sunday, February 24, at 2pm we will be hosting Rosita Zet, founder of Rosa de Amor, a food program, school and orphanage in Guatemala! She will be speaking and showing pictures and video on her ministry work with needy children in Guatemala.
Rosita Zet struggled all her life as a single parent to make ends meet and successfully raise her family. Once her children were grown, she sought a place to build her dream house.
Rosita found a small patch of land outside of Coban where she started building her home. It was soon after construction started that she began to learn of the abject poverty of her neighbors, particularly the neighborhood children who did not have enough food to eat. Rosita knew she could not live in luxury while her neighbors struggled for the bare necessities.Rosita decided to abandon her dream of building a new home, and, instead, gave the building to the community. It was the beginning of Rosa de Amor.
Each weekend, Rosita would run a soup kitchen from her house providing balanced meals that the children lacked during the week. Next, she financed a makeshift school in her house. Rosita would return to Guatemala City during the week to earn money to finance the school, and return on weekends to help run the soup kitchen.
She now is trying to build a school building in what would have been her backyard. Learn more about Rosita's story and her dedication to her neighbors. She is here visiting from Guatemala and will be sharing her story with us this Sunday at the Starfish Orphan Ministry office, 2800 Clark St., Suite B (28th and Clark). Anyone interested is invited to attend.
