Draffenville, KY June 28-29, 2008 -- Across the Nation, thousands of Ham Radio Operators will be showing off their ability to provide emergency communications in the event of a disaster, using their knowledge and ingenuity, emergency generator power, ham radios and temporary antennas. The event is called "Field Day" and The Marshall County Amateur Radio Association will be setting up one such site at Mike Miller Park in Draffenville, KY. Operations will begin on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. and end on Sunday at 4:00 P.M.
There are over 654,000 Ham Radio Operators in the U.S and more than 2.5 million around the world. Many of them volunteer their time and equipment in order to send messages in many forms, without the use of phone systems, internet or any other infrastructure, in times of crisis. We hope people will come by and see how we can provide long range communications, when all else fails. It's not just your Grandfathers radio anymore.
