This will be my eleventh Valentine's Day with my husband, and to date I have never received a Valentine's gift, or even a card from him. However, the most memorable, or in my case, the worst, was the first. I was away at a conference in Louisville, and my husband was coming with some friends to the National Farm Machinery Show the same week. So, at the end of the conference and the show, he planned to come to the Galt House to spend the weekend with me. That was supposed to be my Valentine's gift. Well, that Friday night when I walked into my hotel room, I expected to find flowers and anything but what I found. He was there, but he was sick, so sick that he was in bed, all of the lights were off, and he couldn't stand to even have a light on. I had left some cute little presents on the bed, which were still there, and he was asleep. I spent Valentine's Day sitting in a dark hotel room by myself while he slept, and had room service for dinner. Then, when we were leaving, he said "I'll go get the car", and walked out, sticking me with the hotel bill that was supposed to have been my gift. After a week in Louisville, I was broke and had to charge the room on my credit card. That was only the first of many to come that yielded disappointment for me. Now, I've just come to expect it and it's just an another ordinary day at our house. So, I thought if entered the contest, I might have a chance of having my first "memorable for the right reason" Valentine's Day.
